• We had a wonderful opportunity to visit Aspen House Memory Care in Loveland (about an 1/2 north of Denver on a good traffic day). We were able to tour the facility, and talk to Jean Cannon about her facility, and about assisted living and memory care. Jean is a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and we had a wonderful experience at her facility.

• A personal note about the Denver area: I (the editor/founder) of Assisted Living Directory have lived in the Denver area for over a decade. Denver is wonderful in many ways. The weather, perhaps different than the common perception maybe, is terrific. Denver boasts over 300 days of beautiful sunshine per year, and there is actually not a whole lot of snow or inclement weather that comes our way. Most of the snow stays in the mountains, and what we do get melts away fairly quickly.
• Seniors that live in Denver are a lucky bunch. It seems like every week I drive by a new, and beautiful assisted living facility around town. Many new ones are being built all of the time!
• I've recently had the opportunity to visit some of the assisted living facilities in the Denver area, and one of the things I am working on is doing video interviews with the facility administrators. I plan on asking these folks questions about their experiences in the assisted living field, perhaps to help all of those folks that are interested in entering the field of long-term care. I have numerous visitors to my site comment on my "how to" page with questions about how to open an assisted living facility, and what they might expect working in this industry. Having local experts weigh in on their experiences about the rewards and challenges of operating an assisted living home would be, I think, extremely valuable information to add to my site.

• Q: I am interested in finding a care facility for my Mother (92 years old January 9). She does have dementia and probably some Alzheimer's, and takes two medicines. My problem is that I am not from the Denver area, and getting there, doing research, and knowing what I am doing and getting into is quite overwhelming. I am looking for someone to help me sort out my options based on her needs.

• Q: I am coming to Denver on Oct 1 to find a new Assisted Living residence for my Aunt. I am looking for a facility that is Medicaid approved. She has about 2 years of resources remaining to pay for her needs. The family would like to acclimate her to her new surroundings before needing to go on assistance.

• Q: I am writing to inquire about possible residence for my parents. My mom is 66 and suffered a severe brain aneurysm a little over two years ago. She is recovering well but still in need of assistance and living at a nursing home in northern Indiana. She is currently receiving physical therapy and nursing care for daily activities including showering, getting clothed, using the restroom, etc. She maintains a regular diet and eats in the cafeteria. She is in a wheel chair but regaining strength and with help is able to stand. Our hope is that she will be able to walk again one day, but we aren't sure. My father is 67 and currently living independently. He spends every day with my mom, at the nursing home. Though he is able to live independently, taking care of the house is becoming too daunting of a task for him. They have two cats that they love very much and would be looking to live with them.
• Both of my parents have Medicare and supplemental insurance. In addition, my mother receives benefits from Medicaid, so we are looking for a facility that would accept her.
