Our journey to research and develop this page for Santa Barbara assisted living was a fun one! Our first nudge of excitement was when we checked out the census numbers for Santa Barbara and learned that it has almost 12,500 residents who are considered 'seniors' - or over the age of 65. This number is much higher than the US percentage - and for this reason, we were very glad to see how many great senior services and assisted living facilities are in Santa Barbara to serve the seniors here.

One of the reasons that Santa Barbara might be such a magnet for seniors and retirees is that it is truly in one of the most beautiful and stunning geographic areas in California. Santa Barbara is nestled against the ocean, and shielded by majestic mountains to the east, which include beautiful Rattlesnake Canyon Park, which includes some wonderful outdoor hiking and sightseeing opportunities to people of any age!

We always appreciate seeing bigger towns and cities that obviously invest money and resources into a good senior program, and senior centers. The City of Santa Barbara offers a senior program, which has a robust and varied senior activity schedule. Seniors can take part in a number of Arts and Crafts classes (finding your inner child!) such as porcelain painting, or knit and crochet.

Additionally, there are many classes available for seniors to keep your heart pumping and healthy, such as line dance, yoga, table tennis and much more.

Other programs and activities offered by the Santa Barbara Seniors program include, but are not limited to: senior nutrition programs, a brown bag program, learn a new language, hard of hearing support group, AARP Chapter 72 public meetings, and bridge and card games.
