So, I am on vacation this week, and any time I am on vacation, I think about things I would normally not consider, or have time to think about – thus, the wonder of vacation, time off, spacing out, and free-association.
The first day here, I took the following photo, believe it or not, with a smartphone. It’s of my son, on the beach, and at this particular moment, we don’t have a care in the world.
That same day, I read a quotation from Tony Robbins (and I am not normally a big guru-follower, by the way, but I thought this nugget was especially profound) – which I have been thinking about a lot on this break. He says: “Trade your expectations for appreciation and your whole world changes in an instant!”
I have been trying to apply this, and really, my perspective has changed. I am finding myself being really grateful for every moment that I am here, every shade of blue and green in the ocean, my family, and just about everything else that is coming our way.
It’s my hope that when I get back to ‘reality’ – that I will be able continue this run of positive space in my head. I guess that if you don’t expect anything, and just appreciate things as they happen, that it will be hard to be disappointed about much.
For now, I am feeling pretty appreciative and grateful about a great many things in my life.
