Assisted Living Tidbits:

We were a little surprised that there wasn't a more solid showing of assisted living facilities in New Haven. We were only able to find a few of them (or, if there are more, they don't really have much of an online presence).

For a city of almost 125,000, we thought there would be more. However, what may be happening is that New Haven is sort of a core urban area, surrounded by numerous suburbs and smaller towns, where there are quite a few more assisted living and Alzheimer's care facilities - not such a far drive from New Haven. So really, there is representation in the area, but as far as New Haven proper, not so much...

Maybe that will change in the next few years.

On the flip side, New Haven does have some other important offerings for it's seniors - such as 3 very good and active senior center, each one having an "Elderly Services Specialist" that we assume helps to coordinate the activities and manage the center. We've listed the calendar of events page on this page in the main section.

We were also happy to see that New Haven has an Elderly Services Department, which will help assist those who are over 55 - to remain independent and active, and to enjoy the great number of activities that the City of New Haven has to offer. Please visit the New Haven Elderly Services page for more information.

Assisted Living Directory iconAlways, without fail, I recommend to any family, senior or caregiver researching assisted living, or any other category of senior care, to become very familiar with your Local Area Agency on Aging.

Every town, city and area in the US is covered by one (as a result of the Older American’s Act of 1965), and they provide unmatched support, programs, and assistance for seniors.

For New Haven, yours would be the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut. Here’ you’ll find Caregiver Support; Assistance with Insurance and Benefits; Long-term care planning help; Adult Day Care; Information and Referral, and so much more.

This is a noncommercial, state and federally supported entity, and should be considered highly trustworthy and helpful. New Haven has a handful of assisted living facility options that we’ve listed on this page, as well as other support services and information. Each facility we've listed may be contacted directly, and safely. Intro by
