Mixing younger folks with seniors? That's what the Bremerton Senior Center is achieving with it's wide array of programs and activities! "Not So Senior" citizens of Bremerton can enjoy fitness classes, learn to dance, play a game of ping-pong, and much more.

We applaud any parks and recreation program that encourages all age groups to mix and interact - and the Bremerton Senior Center is achieving just that!

Senior Newsletter for Bemerton:

We have always applauded cities, or other 'senior entities' such as senior centers, or agencies on aging that offer a good, downloadable and or mailable senior newsletter for their members or residents. As much as we are now in a very technological day and age, many people, including seniors, prefer to receive their news and updates in paper format, or in a format other than via email. This is where a senior newsletter can be a valuable communication tool. Newsletters can also be very helpful for assisted living facilities, and their residents who are not as mobile, and may not have the ability or opportunity to visit the local senior center or library to pick up a copy of the newsletter. The facility, or resident is able to easily download a copy, or post it in a common area of the facility for all residents to enjoy.

The City of Bremerton has an excellent newsletter called "Active Us" that comes out 5 times per year, and is completely free to the senior center's patrons. The newsletter offers important information for Bremerton seniors about activities, programs, classes, as well as a calendar of events.

Bremerton's newsletter offers detailed information about how to become a member of the senior center, as well as the benefits that one may receive by being a member. There are over 30 activities available to seniors at the center at no additional charge (other than the membership charge). There is a 'couples membership' which is for two people - one needing to be at least 55 years of age or better (I like how they use 'better' instead of 'older!').

Naturally, most newsletters will also offer valuable contact information for the local senior center, as well as any other important, local or state agencies or resources. In addition, hours of operation are also often listed. The Bremerton Senior Center's hours of operation are M-F from 8am to 3pm.

The Bremerton Senior Center has an impressive array of activities for it's seniors to keep busy, both mentally and physically. Games like Cribbage, or Bridge can be enjoyed with other seniors, offering an opportunity to stay socially active, and engaged in life activities. There are also classes available, such as computer tutoring - allowing seniors to become more familiar with editing photos, emailing, and general computer use.

On the final page of the Active Us newsletter, you'll find a very good and easy-to-read calendar of events for several months. This calendar is easily printable so seniors, or assisted living facility administrators may post them in common areas, or on a bulletin board.
