The City of St. Louis is the 2nd largest city in Missouri, and is an independent city. Currently (at last count) there are 356,587 people living in St. Louis, and of these residents, 41,177 of them are seniors, or over the age of 65. This is 11.6 percent of the population, which is exactly one percent lower than our national average of 12.6 percent. Nonetheless, there is a large senior population in the City of St. Louis, and thankfully, there are some good and noteworthy senior services, long-term care and assisted living facilities in the metro area. We visited the official website for the City of St. Louis, and we found a page dedicated to the local Area Agency on Aging for St. Louis. "The Agency's objectives are to secure and maintain maximum independence and dignity in a home environment and encourage economic, social and personal independence of older persons by providing opportunities for employment, socialization, and volunteer activities in the community." The agency is located at 1520 Market Street , Room 4086, Saint Louis, Missouri and the phone number is (314) 612-5918. We also found a website dedicated to the St. Louis Senior Center, which is located at 5602 Arsenal Street in St. Louis, and the phone number is 314-645-3477. This senior center has been around for a very long time - since 1954, and is the 2nd oldest activity center in the US! Some of the services and activities offered by the senior center include: tax help, a library, entertainment, home-delivered meals, transportation, and health fairs. In addition, there is a "Red Hat Group" called the Crimson Belles, who meet monthly to go to lunch, or go on a local trip, or just to laugh and have fun! If you are a resident at one of St. Louis's assisted living facilities, you may arrange transportation to the center by calling 645-3477 at least one day in advance. For information on home-delivered meals (services are partially funded by the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging), please call the Agency on Aging at 314-612-5918 or the St. Louis Senior Center at 314-645-3477. This service is available weekdays. Great questions we have received from our visitors about Autumn View and assisted living in general: My mother is living in a residential center now, but she needs assisted living ASAP. She has no money so she would need help from medicaid. Can you help me or advise me what to do. She is not doing very well and I am worried about her being alone. Please help.
