There is a stereotype in nursing home and assisted living culture that most or all of the residents are "demented" - or suffering from a mental impairment. This is simply not correct. In fact, only a little more than half of nursing home or assisted residents have dementia, and most of these residents are lucid and carry on their complex lives of managing their finances, schedules, and routines as they always have.
