Currently, West Virginia is estimated to have 1,855,364 residents. Of these residents, 16.0% are over 65 years of age, or considered 'seniors.' This percentage is quite a bit higher than our national average of 13% (Source: U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for West Virginia), and will most certainly continue to grow in the years to come. We can naturally expect the need for assisted living and other senior care options to increase as well.

The State of West Virginia has a number of superb resources available to it's senior residents, their families, and caregivers - all designed to assist them through providing information relevant to aging, or to help with issues and concerns that are inherent with aging, and long-term care. One of the most prominent, and thorough 'hubs' of information is through the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources, and the Adult Residential Services (ARS) division. Here, you will find relevant information, and staff contacts who can help an adult to located the appropriate placement setting, or assist with the placement process. This staff's role also includes making sure that a senior, or adult's needs are being met once they have been placed in a care environment.

In addition, the State of West Virginia offers a Facility Lookup database, which can serve as a helpful, unbiased, and trusted way to further your search for assisted living, hospice, Alzheimer's or Dementia care, and other senior/adult care settings throughout the state.
