Vermont Health Care Association:

Assisted Living Tidbits:

Every nursing home or assisted living facility should have a current license issued by the state, meaning that it has passed inspection and meets minimum standards. Each facility must go through a periodic evaluation process. Also, there should be an inspection report that is available for viewing. Please ask a member of the staff for this.

The State of Vermont is currently estimated to have 626,431 residents, of which, 14.6% are over the age of 65, or by US Census standards considered 'seniors.' This is just above our national average of 13% (Source: U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for Vermont). The number of seniors and retirees in Vermont will undoubtedly grow in the years to come, and we can expect a greater demand for assisted living facilities and senior care options.

Seniors, families, and caregivers in Vermont are fortunate to have access to the services and offerings available through the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL). For a complete list of services and programs offered through the department, as well as several tools, pages and sections dedicated to finding service providers and other types of senior care in Vermont, please visit the Programs and Services page.

Vermont, as with most states, has a specific definition of what an assisted living facility is. According to the DAIL - "Assisted Living Facilities are state licensed residences that combine housing, health and supportive services to support resident independence and aging in place." The DAIL offers a full definition, as well as a further list of facilities, as well as the findings of the standard survey results. Intro by
