  • Things to think about: Security and safety should be a major consideration when looking at assisted living facilities. Just as when looking at an apartment or home, make sure and notice the simple safety considerations. Are the streets around the facility well lit? Is there an obvious presence of staff 24 hours a day? Is there a common entry way that is monitored? What is the crime rate in the neighborhood where the facility resides?
  • A good way to judge whether an assisted living residence is well managed is to simply visit the facility and observe! Do the residents look happy? Are there activities happening? Are the staff members well represented? The initial appearance and first impression you get from a nursing home or assisted living facility can be a great indicator as to how it is managed.
