Currently, Mississippi is estimated to have over 2,978,512 residents, of which, an even 13.0% are considered seniors, which is just slightly lower than our national average of 13% (Source: U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for Mississippi). We know for certain that the number of seniors in Mississippi will increase in the years to come, as many of our 'baby boomers' are set to retire. The need for adequate senior housing, including assisted living will also increase.

Fortunately, Mississippians have access to a plethora of excellent senior services and resources provided by the State of Mississippi. Most notably the Mississippi Division of Aging and Adult Services acts as a thorough 'information portal' for many of the state's programs and services, which includes information about Mississippi's 10 agencies on aging - through which the state works directly to administer programs and services on a local or county/area level; family caregiver support; information on the State Health Insurance Program as well as a services overview of specialized services directed at seniors. These services include, but are not limited to transportation; information, assistance and outreach; adult day care; in-home services, and more. Seniors living independently, or those who require the care of a long-term care environment such as assisted living may benefit from the numerous services and ready-available assistance offered through the Division of Aging.
