The Courtyard is located in beautiful
Clear Lake,IA, only a few blocks from
the lake! At the Courtyard, you will
enjoy a beautiful apartment, each with
it's own walk out patio! Three meals
per day are included in the rent, as
are utilities, (except phone and cable).
All apartments have spacious bathrooms
with a walk in shower with seat. The
commons area and full kitchen can be
used by the tenants and their families
and friends for any special occasions.
The facility bus allows for trips to
many local attractions, including the
casino, as well as medical appointments.
The bus is also available for shopping.
Nursing staff are on duty 24 hours a
day to insure a rapid response to any
medical emergency. Blood pressure checks
are available free of charge. Each apartment
has two call stations and a Lifeline
pendant is also included in the rent
for added security. The entrance is
secured and each tenant has mail delivered
inside. Each tenant also has a large
storage area close to their apartment
where Christmas decorations, luggage,
etc. can be stored. A beauty shop is
accessible within the facility and laundry
facilities are only steps away from
each apartment. Each month the tenants
meet with facility staff for a Tenant
Focus meeting. This meeting is to assure
that the tenants's needs are being met,
as well as to plan trips, review food,
activities, and anything else that the
tenants wish to discuss. Fire drills
are held monthly and inclement weather
procedures are also frequently reviewed.

These are unfortunate stories, as it displaces people who aren't as able to move or find temporary housing. This year, the Rose of Waterloo (Iowa) was ravaged by a fire. This is an affordable assisted living facility at the crossroads of Oak Avenue and Franklin Street in Waterloo. This is a new facility that had been slated to open in August, but unfortunately, due to the fire, that date was pushed back. Happily, the facility is opening in December. It's being called a miracle that the facility was able to open so quickly after the fire. The Rose of Waterloo is the largest of three Rose facilities with 64 units. There are mostly single bedrooms, but several are doubles. The facility also offers a variety of floor plans. Moderate to low income seniors are eligible to live at the Rose. To find out if your are eligible for this facility, please call (319) 232-6061. Some of the facility's features and amenities include: a sit-down service dining area, a fifty seat theater, a chapel room, computer room, a library, and a large community room that can hold a large number of people. Congratulations to the Rose of Waterloo on your December opening! Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa has fought for the rights and better care of our senior Citizens: "He has fought attempts to cut Social Security benefits and proposed legislation to help ensure the financial strength of Social Security and improve benefits for women. He opposes efforts to "privatize" Social Security and turn much of the program over to the stock market; he believes privatization will take the security out of Social Security. 4.22.06 - Assisted living facility in the works in Southeast Iowa - ALBIA, Iowa has seen a need for more assisted living resources, and as Iowa holds the crown for the highest percentage of elderly citizens, there surely is a need here. "We think there's a great deal of need here. As the population of the state and the country continues to age, we see down the road there will be even more need," said Heffron.
