Thank you to Melissa for flagging a site

Posted by admin on Oct 15 2009 | General Thoughts, Visitor Feedback

We spend a lot of time adding facilities, writing articles, and writing on our blog. Of course, over time – things change – businesses go under, new facilities are built, and websites…..they change too.

We rely on our readers and site visitors to some extent to let us know if information is inaccurate on our site, or if a website link is not appropriate.

A big thank you goes out to “Melissa” – she wrote us this week letting us know that one of the assisted living facilities on our Las Vegas page had a link to a website that went to a “naughty” site…if you know what I mean.

How embarrassing for us. I remember adding that facility years ago to our site, and at the time, I remember checking out the website, which, at the time, was legitimate.

As we know, and have learned, websites change, and sometimes change hands. I believe this is exactly what happened, and the person who took over the website in question and “redirected” it to a site that was **not** rated “PG” by any means.

We have corrected the listing.

At any rate, we are grateful to Melissa for pointing it out. We try very hard to keep our site clean, accurate and safe, and take very seriously when the information on our website is questionable.

Hello to my fellow retirees

Posted by admin on Sep 29 2008 | Visitor Feedback

Here is an e-mail I received – I normally would delete but this one had some substance, so I thought I would post it.  This email does not indicated a “political stance” by our site by any means.

Hello to my fellow retirees,

Like many of you, Social Security is my principal source of income. Can you imagine if it had been privatized, as John McCain has wanted to do for years?  What a fix we’d be in right now!  Of course, today his proposals would affect only future seniors, but is that what you want to wish on future retirees?  To have modest income one day, only to have a large percentage of it disappear when another market bubble bursts?

We need to retire John McCain.  He was once a man of integrity who has run the sleaziest campaign in living memory.  Even Karl Rove has said that his anti-Obama ads stretch the truth beyond acceptable limits.  That’s Karl Rove, Bush’s chief strategist!  And now we learn that Clean John McCain is in bed with the gambling industry!

I say, give Obama/Biden a chance.  They are men of integrity, and they certainly can’t do a worse job than Bush/McCain.

Seniors Completing Their Education

Posted by admin on Mar 03 2008 | Visitor Feedback

I received an interesting e-mail today that I wanted to share. I didn’t have the answer, but I thought it was a great question. I know that many seniors go back to school in some capacity. Of course, school can be expensive for anyone, and when you couple that with any possible costs for assisted living, or any other costs of living, you can imagine how difficult it may be to actually make happen. The e-mail said:

Are there any grants or funding available to help a seniuor complete an education. Have 20+ credits and more than 300 Contact hours of education credits and would like to know what is available. Am 66 and on SSI and disabled. Robert (Bob)

Assisted Living Not Just For Elderly

Posted by admin on Dec 06 2007 | Visitor Feedback

I just got an email from someone who asked me an interesting question:

“I have a client who is 19 years old and Morbidly Obese. Do you have any facilities that would be suitable for him??”

This brought up a good point – Assisted living isn’t just for the elderly. This is a myth. Unfortunately, there are many younger people with disabilities who can’t operate on their own, so they need assisted living.

I wasn’t able to give this person a good answer, unfortunately. If anyone knows of a facility that might take her client, please let me know in a response to this blog post!
